Project note
Deep verandahs, stone arcades and planted courts temper the climate and place semi-open space at the centre of the house. Rooms open onto this shaded framework rather than simply facing outward. Its later conversion into a café was not anticipated as a theme; it was made possible by the generosity and adaptability of the original residential plan.
